It was so important for both D and myself to have an experienced, caring person who came at the same time (unless we asked for a change) and who did more than she was contracted to do. She was always at the end of a phone and many times gave me the support and comfort I needed. The last day of D’s life she visited whenever I asked for help and I couldn’t have got through his final hours without her. I know the NHS has to consider finances but for me Debbie was priceless and because I helped her I only needed the 2 of us instead of the 2 NHS carers 3 times per day I was offered.
